1945年，国共军队争夺山东平原县。国军45旅排长于成山及士兵秃嘎、曹根被八路军36团俘虏，45旅旅长廖高轩派特攻队营救于成山未果。 日本投降了，曹根、秃嘎愿真正成为八路军，但于仍想回到国民党部队。36团向东北进发中，于成山、秃嘎溜走，救出妇救会主任张英。廖高轩率45师攻下义州，于成山救出重伤的团长王北风。 36团升格为师，王北风命于到国军15师驻扎的阜城捣乱协助部队拿下北顺城，阜城也被解放军攻下，于以自己亲身经历教育新的“俘虏兵”。王北风向廖高轩招降，廖高轩手下楚暮云起兵造反。 王北风奉命攻打义州，于入城欲营救廖高轩，楚暮云杀死廖高轩，于炸掉碉堡，义州攻克。以于成山为代表的一批俘虏兵在解放东北的战斗中成为真正的革命战士。。A story about the 8 time Tony Award-winning director, choreographer, and cinematographer Bob Fosse which focuses on some of the gray areas of his life and his self-destructive side.
