电影由一名生活在布鲁克林区与艾滋病作抗争的女性Ana Willis的真实故事改编。Ana的生活中充满了毒品与艾滋病，她在艾滋病社区中承担起了，救助和宣传艾滋病知识的工作。Ana的丈夫Slick(Wendell Pierce饰演), 就曾与艾滋病人共同吸毒。在Ana的外祖母Lucille(Anna Deavere Smith饰演）因忍受不了这种折磨，远走弗吉尼亚洲。有一天一名艾滋病感染者Amare (Evan Ross饰演)突然消失了，Ana也踏上了寻找他的路中。。Antoine has just returned to his hometown, where he reunites with his former lover and the mother of their little girl, Elsa, whom he has never met.
