After the disaster comes to past what is left of the human species tirelessly attempt to survive their interstellar lives in an unstable mothership.。故事发生在日本埼玉县，在这里，有一条专门从事铸铁生意的街道，石黑辰五郎（东野英治郎饰）就是一名铸铁工人，在松永工厂里干活，在这里，除了一个叫做塚本克己（浜田光夫饰）的男人是年轻人外，其余的工人都是上了年纪的老头子。因为工厂效益不好，松永工厂被大企业丸三公司吞并了，辰五郎等老员工，因为年纪太大而遭到了无情的解雇。 在朋友父亲经营的公司里，辰五郎好不容易找到了一份工作，却因为自己太过于默守陈规，不了解新技术，最终，辰五郎还是选择了辞职。为了补贴家用，辰五郎的妻子不得不在照顾孩子的同时，偷偷跑到居酒屋去当女招待。这一切都被纯子（吉永小百合饰）看在眼里。。
