The poet Dante is lost in a dark and gloomy wood. At the summit of a mountain he sees the light of salvation. Virgil knows another way to go, ...。性情暴躁的倔老头拉里·库克辛劳一生，苦心经营自己已有百余年历史、面积达一千英亩的艾奥瓦庄园，他是这片沃土的国王，拥有至高无上的权利。拉里虽是德高望重的长者，但他的家庭却是个暗藏危机的陷井。他有三个女儿：罗丝、金妮和卡罗琳，没有儿子，长久以来他为究竟由谁继承遗产和发展他的家业而伤透脑筋。。舞妓晚霞（何晴饰）不堪淮王（张绮军饰）侮辱投江自尽，艺人阿端（张小清饰）也被逼坠江而亡。龙宫歌舞掌班解姥姥（高玉倩饰）救活阿端，并把他编入歌舞班。一日，龙窝君（陈希饰）宴请吴江王（刘振中饰），阿端认识了凄美动人的少女晚霞，相同的身世和遭遇使俩人很快相爱了。宴会上对晚霞美貌起邪念的吴江王夜不能寐，他设计召奉晚霞入府，图谋不轨，刚烈的晚霞再次以死殉志。阿端闻讯，万念俱灰，跳崖追晚霞而去。二人以死殉情的行为感动了上苍，使他们死而复生返回人间。淮王闻讯晚霞还活着，心生歹念...... 本片根据《聊斋志异》章节改编。。
